Golden Shears

Golden Shears is New Zealand’s premier shearing and wool-handling competition; held at the Trust House Recreation Centre, on the first weekend in March every Year….
The three-day event encompasses novice, junior, intermediate, senior and open shearing competitions along with junior, senior and open wool handling events and wool pressing competitions, as well as the coveted triathlon award.
Up to 400 competitors, National & International, will converge on Masterton for the three days of competition.
The major events, finals, and live entertainment are held on Friday & Saturday night.
The Golden Shears is great family viewing with atmosphere action, and excitement.

Balloons Over Wairarapa

Experience the magic of the Wairarapa from a hot air balloon! Balloon rides are exclusively available during the Balloons Over Wairarapa festival, visit our website for further information and to make a booking but hurry as spaces are VERY limited. Prepare for lift off and join us this Easter from Thursday 29th - Monday 2nd of April for the 2018 (Easter Weekend) Wairarapa Balloon Festival - Fun for little and big kids!.
All events are weather-dependent and may be brought forward, postponed, shifted or cancelled on the day if conditions are not safe for flying.

Martinborough Fair

The Martinborough Fair is held each year on the First Saturday of February and March each Year. The Rotary Martinborough Fair is held in the picturesque Martinborough Square.
This iconic fair, reportedly the largest in Australasia, comprises over 480 stalls selling top quality New Zealand artwork, crafts, clothing, quality food and provides quality music and entertainment. Thousands of visitors’ flock to town each year for the event, so do what the locals do and get there early.

Wings Over Wairarapa

Wings Over Wairarapa is a Bi- Annual Air Show and is renowned as an outstanding, professional flying programme with a family friendly atmosphere. The show rivals any other for display content and reputation, and is a significant event on the Australasian aviation events calendar.

Motorplex Racing Masterton

The Masterton Motorplex International Drag Strip brings thousands of people to the Wairarapa for each meet!!
Check out the Central National Circuit and the nostalgia drags in the summertime – a great way to spend the day with family and friends. Cars from across New Zealand and throughout the World come to compete – it’s a serious competition!!

Castlepoint Races

The thundering of hooves across wet sand and the cheering of the crowd is the sound of the Castlepoint Races, an Annual Wairarapa Event.
The Castlepoint Races date back to 1872 when the local farmhands would race each other for bottles of rum and stray coins. Today, thoroughbreds have replaced farm hacks and the day is as much about picnicking and family as it is about horses. Betting is allowed but you’ll be allocated a horse at random, for a ticket of $ 2

1.MT HOLDSWORTH: Mount Holdsworth is the main entrance to the eastern side of the Tararua Forest Park. Set against the backdrop of some of the highest peaks in the Tararua Range, Holdsworth offers short walks and longer tramps through attractive forest and higher up into the alpine environment. A 25min drive from Mawley Holiday Park to the Carpark and entrance into the Forest Park. The picturesque Atiwhakatu Stream passes through the area, which is home to a diverse range of bird and insect life. A number of walks are available, absolutely stunning scenery. Always check-out weather and track conditions prior to embarking on a day trip.

2.Pointon Collection: Come on a nostalgic trip and relive those wonderful memories of all those gorgeous clothes we wore - the styles, the fabrics, the patterns and the colours... And of course we have cars too. Like most people we drove older cars in the 1950's - now we call them vintage! The Pointon Collection is open 10 am till 4 pm most days - 06 3786710 to check.

3.Opaki Cycle Trail: Discover Opaki vineyards, groves and orchards by bike!!, hire a bike or bring your own, grab a map and head off on a self guided cycle tour of the tastes of Opaki. Your journey begins at the historic Waipipi Homestead Cellar Door, visiting Opaki's outstanding vineyards and award winning olive grove and the best berry producers in the Wairarapa.
